O Is for Ocean Craft

Turn the letter O into an underwater ocean scene. All it takes is blue glue, green paper, a few seashells, and some goldfish crackers. The completed O for Ocean artworks will look fabulous taped to sunny windows.

O Is for Ocean Craft

What you need:

Uppercase O Pattern printable
Glue
Blue craft foam
Blue food color
Mixing containers
Squeeze bottles or empty glue bottles
Wax paper
Shredded green paper
Small shells and beads
Goldfish crackers
Scissors

What you do:

Preschool Activities: 

Print the Uppercase O Pattern and trace it onto blue craft foam, one per child. Cut out each letter O. Mix glue and food color and transfer into empty glue bottles or other squeeze bottle applicators. Prepare a square of wax paper per child.

Review the shape of the letter O and let each child use his/her finger to trace the shape on his/her craft foam O. Discuss the sound the letter O makes in the word “Ocean.” Have children brainstorm other words that being with the same long O sound: open, oatmeal, over, etc.

Show children how to squeeze blue glue onto the center sections of their wax paper squares by making the O shape over and over from the outside to the inside until they have large solid ovals.

Then, have children press shredded green paper, small shells, goldfish crackers, fish shapes, and/or beads into the glue to make ocean scenes.

Preschool Activities: 

Have them press their blue craft foam Os over their ocean scenes to frame them. Once glue dries, cut out and trim the edges of each O. Display them on windows so that sunlight can illuminate the ocean scenes within.
