Children internalize number concepts with corn husk printouts and popcorn as they practice counting from 1 to 10 and solve addition and subtraction problems.
Grade/Age: Preschool or Kindergarten
Before learning to read, young children need to understand how books work and what they are for. These pre-reading skills are known as concepts of print. The best way to help your child to develop print concepts is to share all different kinds of books together.
Helping your preschooler to develop and strengthen fine motor skills is an important step in kindergarten preparation. What are fine motor skills? These are skills that require coordination of the small muscles in the hands and fingers. They lay the foundation for writing, cutting, manipulating objects, and creating detailed drawings and diagrams.
Fall brings many changes to our world both in the classroom and in the environment. One of the most exciting changes for the children happens on our playgound. Our large, mature Oak tree begins dropping the acorns that we have watched grow all summer long. The children can't wait to begin collection the nuts and bringing them into the room.

This is a day of celebrations! The children will create their own paper birthday cakes and use them to collect data about the birthdays in the class using two methods: tally marks and graphing.
Grade: Preschool

Preschool is an exciting time for learning the letters of the alphabet! Children begin to learn that letters have sounds and that these sounds are in spoken words. A great way to start a child on the journey to letter recognition is with his or her name. Young children naturally like to see their names in print.

A bundle of sticks, a pile of small rocks, some sturdy tape, and a set of number cards are the building blocks for an afternoon of number fun that includes number hunts, ordering numbers, matching numbers, and counting.
Children love being outside, hunting for treasure, and meeting challenges, so why not combine all three for a fun afternoon of finding things that begin with letters from the alphabet?
