Summer is for Hiking

Summer is the perfect time to get outside and go hiking. In honor of encouraging our teaching community to get outside with their kids we are going center this weeks Instagram posts around hiking. Below are some fun hiking games that one can use to keep young ones engaged and learning during outdoor adventures.

Hiking ABC's: One person in the group names a letter of the alphabet then the rest of the group members have to try and identify an object on the trail that starts with that letter. The person who is able to find an object with the corresponding letter first gets to name the next letter.

Hiking Color Quiz: One person in the group names a color of the rainbow the rest of the group members have to try and identify an object on the trail that correponds with the color named. The person who finds an object with the color first gets to name the next color.

Scavenger Hunt: Below is a suggested list to use on the trail, add on any other items that might be interesting. Print and distribute the list along with a pencil to group members. Have the group mark items off of the list as they are collected. You might want to have hikers bring a back pack to collect items during the hike.

(1) Wild Flower

(2) Shiny Rock

(3) Bark Moss

(4) Feather

(5) Seed

(6) Find a foot print and draw it

(7) Find a tree with a hole and draw it

(8) Pine Cone
